Land south and west of Imberhorne Upper School, East Grinstead
The Mid Sussex District Plan
In March 2018 Mid Sussex District Council adopted the Mid Sussex District Plan, which sets out the amount of new housing development required in the district between 2016 and 2031.
The District Plan stipulates that approximately 1,100 new homes should be provided at East Grinstead, as one of the three main towns in the district along with Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill.
The District Plan does not say where in East Grinstead this development should be located. A follow-up ‘daughter’ document, called a Site Allocations Development Plan Document (DPD), is currently being prepared by the council which, when adopted, will allocate specific sites in East Grinstead for new development.
For the last five years Welbeck Land has been promoting the land south and west of Imberhorne Upper School as a suitable site for new community facilities, including land for the expansion of Imberhorne Upper School and land for a new primary school, as well as new homes to help East Grinstead meet its housing needs.
